Personal Statement

I've been playing since I could walk and realized it was what I was meant to do at around 12 years old. Golf is where I have truly found my place and I long to play at the collegiate level. Playing at the collegiate level would not only give me the opportunity to further my skills but also push myself as an individual in the classroom and on the course.

I excel off the tee and I am a talented puter. I also have a very strong mental game, a high golf IQ, and a strong pursuit of my goals. I work to bounce back after bad shots and not let one mistake turn into another. I am very coachable and am willing to try new things when it comes to my play. I work hard every chance I get from the range to the putting green and everywhere in between, especially during the off-season when playing outdoors is hard.

I have been a member of my school’s varsity squad since I was a freshman and became the team’s #1 golfer quickly, and I have maintained that position for 2 years. I led my team to the 1A Iowa Girl’s High School State Golf Tournament in my sophomore year. I placed 4th individually and the team placed 9th overall.

I am very studious in the classroom and work to maintain a 4.0 GPA. I am advanced in Language Arts, Math, and Spanish which has allowed me to get a jump on my college credits as I am taking classes through a local community college. I am also a member of the National Honors Society, National History Day, the Gilder Lehrman Student Advisory Council, FCCLA, and my school’s Talented and Gifted program. These all allow me to help peers and younger students coming through the school system. I volunteer at volleyball, basketball, and golf camps and have the chance to work with children in sports.

I would like to further my academics and athletics at the highest level I can achieve. Ultimately, I am looking for the right fit and I am very open to any opportunity that I have. I know it is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and I look forward to discovering the type of person and athlete that I can become by competing at the collegiate level.
