Every accomplished golfer knows what it feels like to hit that perfect shot, and I love the chase of that feeling. I love the challenge of working to improve in this difficult game. I love working with my coach and being coachable, and learning about my game. I love the day after a bad round, and feeling that spur of needing to work harder. I love when everything clicks, but more so I love putting in the work required to make it click. I love the mental aspect, challenging myself and staying positive regardless if I hit a bad shot, knowing I can only hit one shot at a time. I’m competitive in golf and in the classroom. I have high expectations of myself in each venue, as academic excellence is of equal importance to me. However, school has always come easy to me, but golf hasn’t. I think that is yet another reason I love the game so much.
In fifth grade I began playing in tournaments in US Kids golf and subsequently Peggy Kirk Bell, with the ultimate goal of playing in college. I love being part of a team and the friendships that come with it. I have learned many things from being part of a team such as sportsmanship, leadership, gamesmanship, and how to be competitive.
I have played golf for as long as I can remember. My dad got me into the game when I was just a toddler, and I started working with my swing coach at the age of 5 through the First Tee. I was also one of her students in the local Girls Golf clinic. Now I help young girls learn the game as an E-Leader in the Girls Golf program. I love playing games with the girls such as Ducky Battleship where you try to hit and collect the most rubber duckies. I find it just as rewarding to see those girls improve and succeed as it is when I succeed myself.
I love creating new shots with subtle swing changes and creating challenges that are not only demanding of my golf swing but of my mental toughness as well. Playing golf has always been a big part of my life and I hope it gets to be part of my college experience as well.
