In both my academic and hockey experiences, there are adjectives that frequently come up from my teachers and coaches about my personality: “Natural leader”, “outgoing”, “strong”, “independent”, “empathetic”, “hard-working”, and “confident”. I crave independence and leadership roles. I am not afraid to try new things, work independently or with a group, and take on a role of responsibility when there is a need for leadership. Last year, I participated in the “Best Buddies” program at my high school that provides peer guidance and mentorship for students with mental or physical challenges. I was able to connect and make new friends while learning good life lessons about kindness and support. I was elected assistant captain of my team for the past 2 seasons because I am very responsible, hard working, and lead by example. I am a good teammate because I support my teammates, both on and off the ice. In practice and game situations, I excel at giving positive feedback and encouragement. I am respectful of my coaches and I respond to feedback from the coaching staff.
I love the game of hockey and want to continue into my college years. Having a dream to play college level hockey means putting in hard work and making sacrifices. I currently have a 4.0 GPA and take academics very seriously. I make sure I get all of my schoolwork done on time, even with a busy hockey travel schedule.
Attending Shattuck St. Mary's has taught me a lot in the short time I have been there so far. I have learned how to be more independent and manage my time. I have learned about hard work and determination, working to be the best I can be and constantly striving to improve.
