Lacrosse is more than a team sport to me, it's also way for me to connect myself to my ancestors. I am 25% Native American and my whole life I have felt like it was difficult for me to represent that side of me. I would often hide this from friends, telling them that I was only Mexican and Pacific Islander. As I grew up I realized that I need to be proud of who I am and not be scared to show my ethnicity. When I started to play lacrosse, I felt that I was finally able to represent myself in a sport that I was ,and still am, in love with. Although some may view lacrosse as just another sport, it has a deeper meaning to me, and being able to play at the college level would be a dream come true.
