St. Francis of Assisi once said, “Start by doing what is necessary, then what is possible, and suddenly you are doing the impossible.” It is my dream to become an Occupational Therapist to promote a person's ability to fulfill their daily routines and roles with dignity and ease. To help them to learn what is necessary to achieve not only what is possible, but to reach for the impossible. I apply this same principle to all things I do, including athletics.
I started playing soccer when I was only five-years-old. I excelled on the field and spent many years on travel teams playing soccer. When I got to High School I discovered lacrosse, and found my true love for a sport. It was difficult to take on a new sport where I didn't know the rules of the game and there was a learning curve, but through lots of hard work, suddenly I was "doing the impossible" and I made the Varsity team as a Freshman. I'm a hard worker and I am dedicated to whatever I take on.
As a Girl Scout, I rose through the ranks earning my Gold Award in 2021. I worked tirelessly on my project to bring Occupational Therapy home resources to students in my community who could not attend regular therapy due to the pandemic. I collected supplies and created a home handbook and kits for parents to work with their kids at home. Once allowed, I hosted a family event to bring more awareness to fun activities that parents can do at home with their kids to promote Occupational Therapy goals.
In addition to my interests in Occupational Therapy and athletics, I have been very active in my school and community. I also have a passion for chorus and musical theater and have participated in my school plays, musicals, and choral concerts. I competed in our honors choir (madcaps) and starred in Beauty & the Beast as Chip and Chicago as Mary Sunshine. Additionally, I have performed various roles in community theater including Charley Bates in Oliver (Clifton Theater Group) and Snow White in One Bad Apple (Pax Amicus Theater) as well as numerous ensemble roles in several area theaters. I am a member of the Key Club and enjoy contributing to various community service projects in my community. I’ve volunteered with PRAISE baseball, a special needs baseball team for kids. As well as Power of One Ministries, a local non-profit that supports our community on a number of initiatives like food drives, pantries, school supply drives, and so much more. I am also an ambassador in the Heroes & Cool Kids Club which mentors middle school students as they enter teenage years and prepare for high school. I believe that all of my experiences will help in my future endeavors in college, sports, and later in my career.
Going forward to achieve the impossible, I hope to continue to play lacrosse for the college of my choosing. I also plan to earn a Bachelor of Science in Health Science with a minor in both Psychology and Theater and a Master of Science in Occupational Therapy. I would love to find ways to incorporate my love for sports and fitness and musical theater into Occupational Therapy work. One day I hope to work with pediatric patients in an education or private setting. I believe that once I begin this path towards a career in Occupational Therapy nothing will be impossible, and I can’t wait to make “OT work” fun for my patients.
