My name is Katharine and lacrosse is my passion. I have been playing since kindergarten, and it has been my favorite sport for many years. I love how competitive and intense the sport can be, as well as how dependent it is upon the whole team. I am a versatile player, often playing multiple positions during a game. On my high school team, I am usually Midfield or Defense, and on my club team I play Defense. I think it is a strength to be able to play and understand multiple positions and think this has helped me develop a high lacrosse IQ. Once I even stepped in as goalie for half of a game! As an athlete, I am methodical, setting high standards for myself and pushing myself to get better every day. I am an unselfish player and communicate with my teammates both on and off the field. I often make jokes with other teammates, which I have been told helps everyone get into a better mindset to play. I enjoy being a positive, supportive teammate to make the whole team stronger. I bring this attitude to all sports I play, including volleyball, soccer, track, and figure skating. I am a coachable player, and pride myself on being able to take criticism and work to improve.
As a student, I am ambitious and push myself to excel in my classes. I am excited to be taking advanced math, English, social studies, and science as a high school freshman. I am still exploring my interests, but I plan to pursue studies in the sciences. I like that there are practically endless things to learn about and study in science. I am also beginning my first year playing with Lake Effect Storm and am very excited for the opportunity to play with girls who love lacrosse as much as I do and want to play at a competitive level.
Lacrosse isn’t just a sport to me. It is an outlet for me to relax after a tough day, a place to form friendships and meet new people, and a place where I feel like I can be myself. My goal is to be a leader, a representative of my team, my school, and the sport, and to continue playing for as long as I can.
