My name is Sydney Harwick and I will be a senior at Skyline High School next year. I have been on the Women’s Crew Team at Skyline since my freshman year. Our head coach is Kit Bennett and I actually started rowing with Kit in middle school through his Learn to Row program at Washtenaw Rowing Center. I am currently 5’7” and 119 pounds with a 2k time of 8:30.5 and GPA of 3.8.
As a freshman I won Gold at the State Championships and Midwest Championships in the Women’s Novice 8. I am also very proud to say that as a sophomore I won Gold at the Michigan State Championships in my single with a time of 6:59.274. In my Junior year I won Gold in my 2V/JNR 4x (stroke seat) twice during our rowing season, and we qualified for SRAAs where we made it to the semi-finals.
I am an extremely driven student athlete. In addition to focusing diligently on my studies, I also work very hard with my personal strength coach at Ann Arbor’s Blue Lion Fitness. Last summer I had the opportunity to attend the Saint Joseph University Youth Rowing Program in Philadelphia with Cassandra Cunningham as my coach. Cassandra has truly helped me with my mindset and professionalism as a rower and continues to advise me as I advance my rowing career.
This summer I will be attending the Canadian Henley U19 Sculling and Sweep Camp and then racing at the Royal Canadian Henley Regatta July 28-August 4. Hope to see you there!
