I started rowing the middle of my 7th grade year during covid. I went out to the lake to try it out and the second day I was on the water I instantly fell in love with the sport. Being able to make a boat go fowards but also backwards was amazing to me. I knew I wanted to continue with it. Before rowing I was on a competitive travel basketball team, I’ve always had a hard time fitting in with teams but once i joined rowing I fit in perfectly. The rowing community and my team is so supportive and loving. When I started rowing I didn’t think I would want to work to get to the top in this sport, I honestly didn’t really know what it was. Then I raced in a single at dexter and got first place my very first race. At that moment when I realized I won I knew I was ready to put the work in and make it to the top. Rowing is definitely what kept me going throughout covid and what keeps me motivated in life. My Club has gone through a lot with 5 coaches in the past two years. With all the changes my club has gone through it has only made us stronger, more acceptable to change, and brought us closer as a team. I think of my teammates as my family, we have stuck with each other through thick and thin. Rowing is definitely a special sport that I love. Rowing not only makes me stronger physically but also continues to make me better as a person. The amount of memories I have made throughout rowing has been awesome.
I put all my time and effort into something I’m interested in and want to get better at. I definitely would say I am a hard worker and am determined. One of my mottos is “ You can do anything you put your mind to”. I plan to live by that for the rest of my rowing career and my life. My overall goal with rowing is to row D1. It truly is my passion. In school I am very focused and willing to do what it takes to get good grades and succeed. Whether that is taking more classes or going on trips so I can learn more about that certain career path. I would definitely say I like school, it makes me feel like I’m expanding my knowledge and I love learning new things. Rowing has taught me so many things in and out of the boat. It continues to impress me and make my mentality stronger by the day. Some of the best advice I can give novice rowers is to keep an open mind , keep a positive mindset, and be willing to learn new things. Rowing is such a complex and fun sport, you just have to be willing to work and connect with the people in your boat and take opinions from other people. Rowing is all about the feeling and the connection you have within inside your boat. Sometimes it can get difficult and challenging but that’s with everything in life. You have to take that and turn it into a positive mindset and keep working.
During high school my goal is to place at nationals all 4 years and attend head of the Charles. My team may be small but my goals are large, for not only myself but for my team. I’m hoping to attend school and make as many fun and positive memories as I can.
