Hello, my name is Reese Yoo. I am currently a Sophomore at Stevenson High School. Over the course of the last couple years, I have played high school soccer as well as club soccer. In high school, I was placed on the Freshman team and was called up to Varsity as their backup goalkeeper during playoffs for the 2023 season. For the 2023-2024 club season, I am at FC 1974 on the 2008 Select team playing in the Elite64 Regional and IWSL leagues. I also played for FC United’s Pre-Academy Red team.
As of right now, I have been playing soccer for 9 years and club soccer for 5 years. Before club, soccer was my first source for understanding team sports as I had previously been involved with Tennis, Swim and Gymnastics. After experiencing the joy of winning along side friends, I gradually gravitated more towards soccer and took up club. Club soccer brought in a competitive aspect to my life, which taught me to strive for a goal. Not in the literal sense though as I ended up becoming a goalkeeper, my teammates do the scoring part. Speaking of which, when it comes to my time with my team, I work to pick up my teammates whenever they are down. My captains are great, but who is going to help the captains when they are down? Hence, I try to help out wherever and whenever I can to lighten their load and help them. This has become more prevalent now that club soccer as well as high school have started to demand more time and create more responsibilities that add on to the stress off the field. So to adapt, I’ve had to learn to manage my time well and consider my future.
Currently, I am looking for a school with a strong academic program and a competitive soccer program. I am very strict with myself when it comes to grades and plan to make sure my GPA stays as high as I can make it. With this upcoming High School season, I know that this will only get harder, but I’m always up for the challenge. I’m hoping that my future college will also challenge me so that in the future I can strive towards greater goals and continue playing the sport I love at my best.
