Personal Statement
Hi Coach,
Thank you for your time. I look forward to the opportunity to meet you and showcase my skills. I have been playing soccer since I was 5 years old when my dad taught me the importance of being able to use and shoot with both feet. I have always played on a competitive team and level, participating in ODP and Super Y for many years. I traveled to London with the ODP team and have played in the ECNL league for 2 years. As a freshman and sophomore in high school (4A), I started and played on the varsity team as an outside back and center back. On my travel team, I start as an outside back and have played in the center back and holding mid positions. I feel I have a good soccer IQ, very coachable, and am always learning and improving.
Soccer has been pretty much my life. I would love to play in college. I feel my skill set and experience will allow me to do that. I plan to continue to take private lessons to improve my first touch and technical skills. I will also continue to work with a speed and agility coach to become faster and more explosive on and off the ball.
I am very self motivated. I am enrolled in a special academic program (Ulysses) in high school and have achieved a 4.3 in the first 2 years. It is very challenging but I enjoy that. I feel soccer has helped me become a better student. With games and tournaments almost every weekend, I have had to be organized with my time management and focused with my school work. I have sacrificed a lot of social functions but my desire is to play for a good academic school with a solid soccer program.
My family is very supportive in everything I do. My parents, a retired police officer and middle school teacher, and my twin sister are retiring to the SC/NC area around Oct. 2021. I know my parents would love to support and watch me play so I am applying to colleges in NC/SC. However, I would be open to any college where I might be able to receive the most financial aid and be a solid contributor to the team.
I have been training hard with my club team during this Covid season and still taking private lessons to keep up my skills. I hope to attend some id camps to showcase my talent.
