Personal Statement

I love sports. I love my teammates. I love competition. Pick any season at any age of my life and I was part of a team playing some type of sport. I’ve played soccer every year since I was 5, basketball since I was 6, ran relays and hurdles since middle school and enjoy golfing. By the time I graduate, I will have earned 12 varsity athletic letters, more than any other student, male or female, in my entire graduating class of 565 students. I say this not to be boastful, but to help explain what makes me tick, what makes me who I am.

If I had to summarize my strengths, I’d say they are tangible and intangible. Tangibly- in game situations I am fast, and I love creating unexpected opportunities to score, catching my opponent’s defense off guard. If I can do this off my foot, great, if I can feed a teammate, awesome, as long as we get the job done. Intangibly- I’ve had coaches tell me that I have a positive influence in the locker room and on the sidelines. My teammates are my family and family supports each other whether we are winning or losing. The teams I’ve been on have had great successes, between soccer and basketball, 4 state tournament appearances and last Fall winning our first Soccer State Tournament Championship title in school history. Teams don’t advance to that level without a true team mentality, and having been part of these teams I know the positive approach I can bring to my future collegiate team.

People have asked me which sport is my favorite, and I will usually answer with which ever one I am playing at the moment.  The truth is that it’s not the specific sport that has my heart, it’s the team, the constant striving for growth, the adrenaline that comes with competition, and being a part of something bigger than myself. These are the universal things that define my love for athletics, and I look forward to continuing all of it at the collegiate level.

Sincerely,

Kelley Kloncz
