Personal Statement
I have always known soccer. From the age of five, I have had my foot on the ball. To me, soccer is more than an extra-curricular. Soccer is who I have become. Most young girls dream of becoming princesses and ballerinas, but I didn't. I always dreamt of being on the field, playing for the National Team, and making a life out of something I always strive to be better at.
Although, there have been many challenges along the way that have made me a better player. Most notably was the few years when I had a coach that I felt didn't believe in me. I learned from this to persevere even when negativity was constantly thrown at me. In addition, I have always been one of the youngest players on the field. I have consistently been placed on teams with girls who were several years older than me. I struggled to find my voice, try a new skill, and normally played a safe game. I realized I wasn't getting noticed. Little by little, I started taking chances. Taking these risks led me to some of my successes, such as making the state team for ODP and being placed on top teams as one of these young players.
Athletically, it is important to be coachable and to use criticism to my benefit and to improve my play. Some of my personal goals are to lift people up and to create a positive environment for everyone around me because I know how hard it is to thrive in a negative space. Academically, I always give 100% and think that participation is a crucial part of learning. If you want something bad enough, you can make it happen, and that's what I am trying to do, make my dream of playing soccer a reality.
