Personal Statement

Let me take the time to introduce myself.  I am  Ariel Andrews-Thompson. My parents introduced me to the game of soccer at a very early age.  Since the age of 4,  I have been in love with the game of soccer.  To my surprise, I took to the game immediately and it has been my greatest passion ever since. I first started playing for the Prince William Soccer Club (PWSI) until I realized I wanted something more serious, so at the age of 10, I moved to the Northern Virginia Soccer Club (NVSC) and played there up until I was 14. I then moved to Virginia Soccer Association (VSA) to push my level of playing.   I played soccer for Benton Middle School during the 6th and 7th grade. Due to COIVD I was unable to play for my 8th grade year.  I  played for Charles J. Colgan, Sir. High School during 9th grade for the JV team but was moved up to Varsity for the District and Regional Tournament. This year during 10th grade I made JV and starting in multiple positions due to mt fleixiblitly to play defense and offense. Outside of Soccer, I play field hockey and ran track.  Both sports are very helpful for soccer because they keep me in shape during the offseason.

Soccer has taught me a lot and has shaped me as a person. It has taught me to be a team player, to encourage everyone on my team, and to stay positive because no one goes on the field wanting to make a bad pass or a bad touch. I have learned that being negative does not help anything but being positive can uplift your team and their spirit. Soccer has taught me to always have good sportsmanship, winning or losing, even if the other team doesn't. When you don't have good sportsmanship, you don't respect the game or the rules. Soccer has also taught me to never give up and to always keep practicing because there's always something new to learn about soccer. The great thing about soccer is that every game is different and will never be the same as the one before.   It is a sport that you never know what to expect and it is exciting. I use everything I learn from soccer in school almost every day. I have to be a team player for projects and get my part done,  I try to always have a good attitude about grades, and I have to always practice because I'm always learning something new.

I am a very good student and I take my education very seriously. With juggling sports, school, and my personal life the one promise I made to my mom was to never let my grades, which I've kept my whole soccer career by having good grades.  I've kept a 3.0-3.5 GPA since 6th grade and in 8th grade, I was a member of the National Junior Honor Society where I did a lot of volunteering for service hours. I have yet to pick a major, but I want to consider colleges that would be a good match for me academically. I would like to give back to the soccer community in several ways.
