Before I started swimming competitively I had done swim lessons for most of my life. Right after I turned 6, my dad told me that I could either join a swim team or not use any technology that summer. Now 10 years later, if I had to give up technology to stay on my swim team I would do it without a second thought.
The first couple of teams I was on ended pretty quickly, but I have now been on the same team for about eight years. Here, I have been able and encouraged to grow as a person and an athlete. My team has ten core values and I take all of them seriously, but the ones I take the most seriously are mindset, leadership, selflessness, humility and integrity. Now that I’m also a coach on our summer swim team, encouraging and helping my kids to grow as a person and an athlete is very important to me. I’m looking for a program that will do the same for me, and put the person before the athlete. I want to be challenged athletically and academically and learn as much as I can about everything I can in my time at college, and am looking for a team that will encourage that as well.
