Personal Statement

Hello! My name is Megan Bartels and I am a senior at Highlands Ranch High School in Colorado. I have been an athlete my whole life in multiple sports. I got into competitive swimming at the age of 14 and have channeled my strengths and work ethic from competitive soccer and running to the pool.  I enjoy swimming breaststroke and freestyle events the most. I love the hard work and challenge of practicing and competing. Because I got into competitive swimming relatively late in my school years, I feel especially driven to improve my stroke technique and times. My favorite things about swimming include the continuous goal of improving my own time and being a strong supportive teammate on a team that feels like family. When I am not competing in an event, you can find me cheering on my teammates. I have been thrilled to be a part of our HRHS State Swim team both my sophomore and junior year. I have been honored to receive the 2020 Coach Award for Most Dedicated Freshman/Sophomore, captain’s recognition for Most Supportive Teammate, and the 2021 Coach Award. I look forward to supporting and encouraging my teammates as co-captain for our 2021/2022 swim season. I also compete with the Highlands Ranch Aquatics swim club. I absolutely love swimming and cannot imagine my life without it. There is so much more I want to accomplish in the pool which is why I look forward to swimming in college.

I currently have a 4.0 GPA and continue to find opportunities to challenge myself academically by taking honors and AP classes and concurrent college courses.  My favorite subjects include math and science and I enjoy exploring other technical and creative classes like video production and photography. Fitness and healthy living is important to me and I hope to study exercise physiology possibly along with a minor in nutrition and/or multimedia. I aspire to be a coach in the future. I hope to become part of a liberal arts college community in the Midwest or western United States.
