Hello fellow reader, my name is Regina Gonzalez! I come from a small town called Evergreen Park, right outside of Chicago comprised of 19,000 strong! My swimming career started right where I work now, at the Evergreen Park pool. At seven years old, I didn't know that swimming would take over my life, but I did know one thing: I loved the water. I spent a couple of months at the Evergreen Park pool learning the basics of swimming before I perfected my craft for the next six years over at Richard J. Daley community college in Chicago, Illinois. From there I swam with their swim team until my freshman year of high school over at Evergreen Park Community High School. With the help of my Varsity swim coach Sarah Marshall, I was pulled up to Varsity my freshmen year for the 10 person Varsity Sectionals team. From then on there I had been swimming varsity with events such as the 200 IM, 100 Free, 100 Breast, and the 200 Medley and Freestyle relays. I never really know what event I will be swimming, but one thing is for certain, I am flexible when it comes to my events! During my junior year, I had made the decision of swimming in a club, and have had the honor and privilege of meeting Wally Forsythe, fellow South Suburban coach for Reavis High School in Burbank, Illinois. With his help and guidance, I perfected my technique, and even use his teachings on my students at my job now! Albeit swimming is a huge part of my life, academics always come first. I am an AP student with a 3.5 GPA, ranked 45 out of 205 in my senior class, and am a member of the National Society of High School Scholars, along with my school's National Honor Society branch! I am apart of many clubs here at Evergreen Park High School such as Operation Snowball/Leadership and everything that Evergreen's music department has to offer!
