Personal Statement

As I look forward to swimming in college my aspirations are to become a better swimmer, learn from my teammates/coaches, and be apart of a family that respects each other. I am a type of swimmer that admire challenging workouts that will push me to my limits. Having challenging workouts/sets allow me to feel satisfied about who I am as a swimmer, as it shows what I am capable of doing anything. Swimming allows me to show my leadership skills and worth ethic, as attending swim practice at 5:00 am is shows dedication. I not only work hard in the pool, but I work hard in school. Maintaining a 3.8 GPA or high, is always one of my priorities besides swimming. I like to challenge myself and take difficult courses.

Being a competitive swimmer since I was 9 years old, allowed me to learn how to become a leader and a role model to others. For 5 years I was apart of a school swim club that had all ages, from 4 year olds to 18 year olds.  During swim meets I would go give a self motivation speech to the kids before there races and answer any of their questions. I believe that being a role model to the young swimmers are very important.

I am an open minded swimmer, where if coaches want to change up my strokes or my events, I trust them in making that decision. Living overseas for several years, allowed me to have the opportunity to be trained by several coaches. I've had the experience to be coached by a four time Olympic swimmer in Thailand, who gave me the inspiration to swim in college and be the best that I can be. Being coached by several different coaches in 10 years are very different than swimmers who have swam at their club teams since they were a child. I have had the opportunity to learn from different styles of coaching, which allows me to work and trust coaches. My personality revolves around me moving a lot as a teenage girl.

Not only do I spend most of my time in the pool, I always spend time doing community service. I have been apart of several clubs that help raise awareness and money to their foundations. During my freshman year I was apart of Kids Action for Kids, which help raise money for children in Thailand with cleft pallets. I was also involved in Traffic Jam, Green Panthers, and Mahajrag Boys clubs. In addition, I have coached several kids from my previous swim team, ISB Panthers.
