My parents claim I was born with webbed fingers. I’m not sure about that, but swimming and being in the water has always been a passion. From early on I was an avid swimmer – taking multiple classes a week with my childhood swim teacher Judy Pare in Brooklyn, NYC. I swam with the AGUA team in lower Manhattan for two years, before aging out of the program and then joined the Packer Collegiate Varsity team in Middle School. Finding and joining an amazing swim team was a driving force behind my decision to go to boarding school for high school. I have swum on the Varsity team at The Peddie School in New Jersey for the last three years, and I am excited to be with my team for my last year of HS.
I have a passion for all things water related – I spent summers in Middle School canoeing and portaging the waterways of Vermont and Canada, I’ve rafted down the Snake and Salmon Rivers in Idaho, I’m lucky enough to have sailed and snorkeled in the waters off Jamaica, Belize, Costa Rica, Antigua, the Galapagos Islands and the Western Highlands of Scotland. I’m getting dive certified this summer in Spain whilst the rest of my family lies on the beach – it’s just not a vacation unless I’m in or on the water somehow!
My love of the water has now developed into an interest in marine sciences. Last summer I studied Oceanography at Stonybrook University in Long Island and got an A. I’m taking environmental sciences in my last year of HS and hope to continue marine sciences at college. Or medicine – not yet decided! This summer I am working for my third summer as a swim coach and RC certified lifeguard at my old middle school. I was promoted to Head Coach for my third summer. I am also working at a local spin studio in the evenings and as an artist’s assistant on the weekend. So I’m looking forward to our family vacation in August!
I love to swim and am proud to be with my team and coaches – they are my family AND my friends. I’m already training and looking forward to getting back in the pool with the Peddie team in September. I hope to find as wonderful a swim family when I get to college.
