Emerson Dalton '23 Recruiting Profile

My name is Emerson Dalton, I’m a junior at Lawrence High School, located in Lawrence NJ. 

I am a true athlete at heart. I am disciplined, committed, and thrive on competition. I was a three-sport travel athlete playing soccer, lacrosse, and swim before pursuing swim full-time my freshman year in high school. I love the positive impact of being part of team and enjoy the camaraderie I have with all my teammates and coaches. I’m grateful to my coaches for taking the time to understand my strengths and weaknesses and applying their constructive feedback so that I’m continually pushing toward my full potential. 

Swimming has brought a different mental toughness to me than any other sport. I have learned to manage my emotions, work through practice fatigue, and endure the pressure of wanting a personal best every time I swim and not always succeeding. Although I swim year-round competitively and have had many successes the highlight of my high school career was breaking 2 swim records (200 Freestyle and the 400 Freestyle) each held for almost 20 years. I’m looking forward to swimming with my High School team again this year and hopefully as a team we will make it the state meets. 

When I’m not in the pool swimming or teaching swim lessons, I’m at school, working hard to maintain a positive GPA, participating in after school clubs and cheering at a game to help motivate our high school teams to a win. I have been a member of Students Helping Honduras and Operation Smile and DECA since freshman year. Both clubs have pushed me outside my comfort zone and given me an opportunity to participate in leadership and community activities that I can apply to everyday life.  

I’m excited about being a collegiate athlete. I want to continue to be challenged both in the classroom and in the pool. I still have a lot to learn in both areas and I’m prepared to put the time and effort into both my studies and swimming so that I am contributing positively to all areas of college life.
