I don't think many students would say that they have only been swimming for less than two years. This may not sound like something good to mention at first, however, I hope it emphasizes and relays how quickly I latched onto and am succeeding in this sport. Having participated in nearly every team-oriented sport that was available to me since I was four years old, proves that I love a challenge; I found swimming to be like no other. After joining the Scarlet Aquatics Club Team two years ago, I went from only being able to float, to making a California Speedo Sectionals cut in the 50-meter freestyle. There is no greater challenge; no greater joy for me! My coach constantly alludes to how highly disciplined I am with an ability to embrace challenges under pressure and turn them into opportunities for growth. This mindset has allowed me to achieve my personal best in various swimming events and molded me into not only a physically but also mentally resilient student-athlete in and out of the water.
My goal is to continue to develop into an accomplished swimmer throughout college while I study exercise science/kinesiology and obtain my degree. I understand the discipline, determination, and devotion required to be a successful student-athlete. Maintaining my GPA, setting new PR's during every club/high school meet, and working an internship at a Chiropractic Care Facility to learn more about exercise science speak to my character and commitment. I succeeded in breaking an eleven-year-old record for my high school swim team in the 50 freestyle at the invitational counties meet. Shortly thereafter, I broke the 100-yard backstroke and 100-yard freestyle times at a club meet with the times listed above. Last year I received the High School Rookie of the Year Award and this year received the MVP Award. I anticipate breaking at least three more records this upcoming senior year and having four cuts at the Swim Mac LC/SC November Invitation Meet in North Carolina.
Swim not only became the sport I love personally but the intensity of it led me to aspirations of helping others in it and choosing my major.
