When I was little, my parents introduced me to different types of activities such as ballet, gymnastics, soccer, and basketball. I realized that none of these sports/activities were for me and I asked if I could try swimming. I immediately fell in love with the sport. I have participated on a swim team since I was 7 years old and cannot imagine my life without it. In 2020, when the pandemic caused all local pools to shut down for several weeks, it was the first time I had not been able to swim for an extended period of time and I was going crazy. I successfully convinced my parents to get an above-ground pool in our backyard so that I could get in the water. (It was a circular pool and I needed to tether myself to a nearby tree, but it worked just fine!) Swimming with friends on my club, High School, and neighborhood teams continues to drive, challenge, and inspire me to be a better swimmer and teammate.
Over the past few years, my commitment to swimming and the time spent at practice have increased significantly. I am proud that I have been able to manage my time, maintain high academic grades and continue to volunteer in my community. It is my plan to swim in college while continuing to uphold these high standards.
