My name is Emma Burnley and I'm a Junior at Eisenhower High School in Lawton, Oklahoma. As a military child, I have moved about every 2-3 years. Along with this, comes transferring schools, changing club teams, and finding new friends. I have never fallen short of any of these, even though each one progressively gets more challenging with every move. Not only did I overcome these hardships, but also did it while improving academically and athletically.
Being a student-athlete, I am dedicated and competitive in and out of the water. I study and train to enhance my skills and be one of the best student/swimmer/teammates no matter what team I am a part of. I have always set high personal goals for myself and work hard to achieve them. Without self-discipline and my strong work ethic, I would not be where I am today. My two favorite events are the 200 IM and the 500 free. I particularly like these events because they challenge me with both endurance and speed. In my school, I am the president of National Honor Society and am a part of multiple Honors/AP classes. In my community, I am a lector at my church and I help coach the YMCA Barracuda Swim Team. I strive to be a good example for and mentor other student-athletes.
I would like to continue my student athlete career in college by furthering my education and improve my swimming. I believe that the right athletic program and coach could further develop and challenge me to unlock my full potential. I know I will adjust easily and assimilate.
