Hi!! I am Khiara Yates, I swim for The Woodlands Swim Team and The Woodlands High School. My high school swim team is very competitive within itself (2021 State Champions) and it really gets me motivated to work hard at every practice. My coach always says, "process over product" and it taught me to love and enjoy the work ethic I put in at practice. I started swimming at the age of 6 and ever since the sport has had a big impact on my life and shaped me into the person I am today. The 100 and 200 breaststroke are my strongest events, with a time of 1:07.46 and 2:29.04 (SCY). My goal at the moment is to get stronger (lifting) to help me get more aggressive in my races.
As of now, I am not entirely certain with what I want to study in college. Math has always been my favorite subject and want to head into the engineering studies. I am a junior and currently take 4 AP classes: Physics, US History, Spanish IV, and English and Honors Pre-Calculus. I am half Mexican and learned the basics of Spanish as I grew up. Academics is something I take very seriously because I believe it will be very beneficial when it comes to my future job. Throughout the past 2 and half years in high school I have mastered managing my time with school and swim, and think it has prepared me college.
Without swimming, I would not have much dedication and work ethic in my daily life as I do now. My teammates are my best friends and we always push each other by racing in practice. I love what the sport has done to my life and the mind set it created for me and want to continue doing it in college.
