Personal Statement
My name is Isaiah Salas, and I'm addicted to baseball. I fell in love with baseball at 4yrs old, but my obsession with throwing a ball may have started before then. Growing up in Northern California, I always played outside and enjoyed playing baseball with my friends and teammates. I thrive on competition and enjoy the process of mastering my ability to strike a player out. The feeling of overcoming obstacles excites me, but my passion is the process of performing well and winning with my teammates. With my recent move to The Woodlands, Texas, I've learned to adapt to new coaches and teammates and created life-long friendships thanks to baseball.
My strengths include:
- Gold glove at 1st base
- A strong arm
- Quickness in the outfield
- Consistency when pitching - up to 89mph
- A plus curveball (slurve ball)
When I step on a mound, I know it's where I belong. I've been pitching my entire baseball career and devoted countless hours to getting stronger, faster, and smarter on and off the field. I'm committed to working hard and continuously improving my craft. I will always step up to a challenge and find ways to learn and grow from the experience.
I always put in more work than expected, more so than any competitor, and I'm motivated to be the best at what I do. My goal is to become a professional baseball player, but I understand that my academics are key to my success. Therefore, I take classes that will challenge me and stretch my thinking so I can be more intelligent. I want to major in Finance, but I'm open to learning more about Sports Medicine, so I will likely do both in my lifetime. I plan to continue to excel in athletics and education throughout my high school career. In the future, I aspire to become a D1 college student-athlete and play baseball in the MLB.
