When I first got into high school, I never planned on playing tennis, but I think that’s what makes my story in growth and perseverance worth while. One of my dad’s coworkers had a daughter who had been playing almost her entire life- and dang was she good! My dad encouraged me to give it a try, and I got enrolled in our local club to learn how to play. At first, I was extremely intimidated, but as I continued, I met so many friends and learned to love the game. It’s an outlet for my stresses, it’s a place to have fun, and it’s a place to let out my competitive side. Over the past few years, I have trained year round, because this path of tennis has driven me to set high (yet not impossible) goals for myself. My freshman year, I worked hard after only picking up a racket for the first time a month before school season started. I made the top of our Junior Varsity team, and from then grew and learned even more about the game. Through the summer I played with Junior Team Tennis and as the school year began I took up private lessons. Sophomore year I made 2 doubles on Varsity, then continued to play Junior Team Tennis again over the summer. I won state (2019 Colorado JTT) and continued taking privates and reaching for my goals. This year, Junior year, I made Varsity again, this time playing singles.
As far as collegiate goals, I hope to play for a D1 school because I love to learn and improve myself. These past two years I have been working and fine tuning pieces of my whole game play style, whether it be my serves, my footwork, or my attacks. I think that my quick learning style would make me a great candidate for a D1 team, that along with my eagerness to be challenged. However, there is more to me than just my game. I am a very extroverted person, and I love encouraging my teammates and keeping things fun while competitive. I strongly believe that the team should not just be random girls you play with, rather it should be a family where we can all support each other. On my school team, it is important for me to keep things fun and bring personality to the team as well as serve as a role model for the younger members.
Academically, I am very focused and driven, especially in subjects that I am interested in. My sophomore year I took AP Psychology and I absolutely fell in love with the subject. I am also intrigued by law. At the collegiate level, I hope to pursue a major in Psychology and go into Prelaw. Throughout high school, my GPA has maintained a 4.0 or above because I work hard to maintain A’s and I expect nothing less from myself. Outside of school, I am a member of the Colorado Springs Youth Symphony for which I play the violin. This coming summer 2021, we plan to travel and perform world premiers of pieces commissioned for us in Bulgaria and Greece. My goal through this experience is to further immerse myself in the culture overseas and learn and grow from it. I believe that through these experiences, my amiable nature, my drive to accomplish, and my eagerness to be challenged, would all contribute to me being a great candidate for your team!
