Personal Statement

I am a 5'9" Tennis player, weighing 125 lbs.  I am extremely competitive and love the game of tennis.  It is hard for me to imagine myself not playing, because I have devoted so much time and energy to the game.  I started playing at the age of 8 in Marietta, Georgia.  I played on various USTA and ALTA teams, while taking lessons and doing drills year round.  I played my first USTA tournament (Southern-Georgia) at age 10 and continued playing tournaments over the years.  I also played intercollegiate tennis during the summers prior to 9th and 10th grades.  During my freshman and sophomore years, I attended Lassiter HS-GHSA Class AAAAA-Region 5, playing singles and doubles.  My varsity record was 10-4 during 2009-10.  In June 2010, I moved to Berlin, CT.  I embraced the move as the chance to meet new competitors and raise the level of my game.  I am a senior at Berlin HS- CCC South, Class M(Conference Champs!), where I play #1 singles.  I was  undefeated (7-0) in the conference and my overall record was15-4.  We qualified for states  (#5 seed)-losing in the semi finals to the #1 seed in a close match--making history in Berlin as first girls tennis team to make it past the first round of states!!   I also qualified for the Singles Open advancing to the 3nd round, with a record of 1-1, losing in a close match.   Being new to BHS, I am not eligible to be the captain, but I believe I am a leader and role model for the other players.  I received the Coach's Award  as the best player on the team and was named to the All Conference 1st team, as well as the All-Herald Team and All-Courant Team.  Prior to this tennis season, I played in many USTA tournaments (New England) and have begun to gather points to up my ranking.  I am currently 56 in NE,  I played on a summer clay court league and I was undefeated until my loss in the end-of-season tourney in the semi-finals on 7/29.  All of my opponents were boys from CT high schools.

I feel like I have been preparing for college since kindergarten!  Since being identified as a gifted learner at 6, I have been taking accelerated/honors courses throughout the years. I received Honors for my grades this Fall of 2011.Getting an excellent education is important to me.  At this time, I am planning to major in Business- management, sports management possibly.   Finding the right college/university which will meet my athletic, acdemic and financial needs is my #1 goal.  I am a fierce competitor with a desire to play as a freshman with a team eager to win!  My dream is to play collegiate tennis!!
