Personal Statement
I am a senior at Tesoro High School in Southern California (Class of 2020). I competed as a freshman on my high school track team and earned my Varsity letter in Pole Vault. Because of the lack of pole vault training and instruction at my high school, I joined a pole vault club under coach Kevin Magula (Higher Flyers Club in Huntington Beach, CA). Beginning in my sophomore season, I only competed for my club and unattached at various all-comers, college track meets and the National Pole Vault Summit. The current high school coach will not allow me to receive private training to improve my technique and skill set and compete for my high school. I would not have achieved my current marks if I stayed on my high school team.
My personal best mark is 12' at the USATF So Cal Association Jr. Oly Championships - 1st place 17-18 year olds. I also have a mark fo 12'3" at a "pole vault only meet" on May 20, 2019. I have qualified for the Arcadia Invitational and the Mt. SAC Relays in 2018 and 2019; but did not compete because I have to represent my high school under CIF rules. My high school goal is to vault over 13' before I graduate. I plan to continue vaulting in college as I have a dream of qualifying for the Olympic Trials in 2024. I have a weighted 4.0+ GPA and I am involved in the National Charity League, National Leadership Council and Congressional Award programs. I have learned to become a better leader among my peers and have completed over 400 hours of community service in the past four years.
I am dedicated to training 18-20 hours a week for my event. I love being part of Higher Flyers Vault Club because of my teammates and their support. We challenge each other to be a better competitor, student and person.
