My name is Makenna Miller and I am a senior at Long Beach Polytechnic High School.
During my freshman year of high school, I played soccer, a sport I had participated in for twelve years, and in the off season I began running on the cross country and track and field teams. I eventually stopped playing soccer altogether, because my passion for running quickly outgrew that which I had for soccer. It became clear to me that running is the sport I exceed in, because when I run, I lose all of my stress and worries, focus on the run, and enjoy myself. This passion has grown to a point where I am determined to represent my future college in track and field.
Coming from a team like Long Beach Poly has really taught me how to work with many different coaches and teammates. Long Beach Poly’s track and field team is like my second family and being on this team has taught me how to constantly push myself to be a better athlete and person. I am looking to run for a four year college where I can major in kinesiology and fulfill my goal of becoming a physical therapist, while being fully committed to the track and field team. I believe studying this field while maintaining my position in a college sport will create a symbiotic relationship, as my understanding of sports injuries and prevention of such will give me further insight into the sport, and vice-versa. I will be a great part of your team because my passion for running will fuel me in every practice and meet, and I aim to inspire my teammates with my positive attitude and drive.
