Personal Statement

Hello. You probably already know my name and other various statistics and facts, but I'd like to share a few more tidbits about myself I think you should know. For one, I'm ridiculously competitive, and take great pride (more than I probably should) in my 13 second 100 meter dash and weight lifting marks. There aren't many things that rival my driving passion for track and field, and I gladly take criticism as a challenge, making it one of my incentives to improve. This competitiveness is reflected in my academics. As I mentioned earlier, there are few things that can dethrone track from the top of my priorities, and academics is one of them. I love learning, and admit it and won't hesitate to call myself a "nerd." I'm constantly claiming different classes to be my favorite (which ironically reflects my current performance in that class), but I have to reward the prevailing title of 'favorite' to English class. Science follows closely behind then art and social studies. My favorite classes mirror my outside school interests. Reading has always been an avid interest as well as drawing. But more recently I've been enveloped in a world of science, curious as to where this new branch of interest will lead me. This brings me to an increasingly alarming issue; my future. I have absolutely no idea of what I want to be or do. One week it's to become a New York bestseller and the next it's to be a leading researcher on a current and prominent illness. All I know is that the pattern of my ambitions is that they challenge me, and I aim to go to a school that will successfully prepare me for a rigorous career. This means that the academic performance in a school is very important to me. I won't limit my options yet and am very open minded about schools I don't know about. Of course, I want to be in a highly competitive athletic environment and the ultimate college would be one that stresses both of these. My goal as a student athlete is to maintain high performance in the classroom and to meet my athletic goals as well. Right now, my goals as an athlete are to continue my sport in college and to letter my freshman year. One of my more ambitious goals is to be a four year academic all-American and all-American. I realize these are pretty high things to reach for, but I'm willing to work and to dedicate everything I have to them, and with the help of family, friends, and God I can achieve them.
