Personal Statement

Hello! My name is Courtney Dickens and I am currently an undergraduate freshman at the University of Alabama studying as a pre-medical student. I ran both cross country and track and field throughout my four years of high school, but before attending college I thought that it was not something that I would not be able to continue. After getting through about half of my first semester in college and running on my own, I have realized how much racing and competing meant to me. While I run on my own and have remained very active, I am looking to step back into competition for my sophomore year of college. I know that while it may be untraditional to accept an athlete going into her sophomore year without actively competing their freshman year, I am confident that I'll be able to make a contribution to the team. I am determined to work hard, train competitively, and come back into the world of running! I value the strong bond of a team and the familial community that comes along with it. I was varsity cross country captain my senior year and earned the coach's award in cross country and leadership award in track, and I feel that I'll be able to bring that positivity with me as well. This brief time away from this sport has shown me it is a large part in my life and I believe that I can come back into it strong and passionate. Thank you and I look forward to hearing from you!

NCSA COLLEGE RECRUITING®

NCSA College Recruiting® (NCSA) is the nation’s leading collegiate recruiting source for more than 500,000 student-athletes and 42,000 college coaches. By taking advantage of this extensive network, more than 92 percent of NCSA verified athletes play at the college level. The network is available to high school student-athletes around the country through valued relationships with the NFLPA, FBU, NFCA and SPIRE. Each year, NCSA educates over 4 million athletes and their parents about the recruiting process through resources on its website, presentations of the critically-acclaimed seminar College Recruiting Simplified, and with Athletes Wanted, the book written by NCSA founder Chris Krause.
