For as long as I can remember, I have wanted to compete as a collegiate athlete. I began my sporting career as a soccer player and alpine ski racer. But it was soccer that led me to my love of track. I was a right midfielder (winger) in soccer and was able to outrun most defenders. Because of this, and really on a whim, I signed up for track which is probably the best decision I have made. I have also been an alpine ski racer from a young age, racing in Slalom, Giant Slalom, Super G, and Downhill events around the Pacific Northwest and Northern California. I was selected for the Pacific Northwest Ski Association (PNSA) Race Team, racing against other regions in Sun Valley, Idaho. However, despite my love of soccer and ski racing, it's the running track that truly feels like home to me. Running track at the collegiate level is my dream and I am working very hard to turn it into a reality.
My favorite individual track events are the 100m, 200m, and 400m. I attended the 2022 and 2023 Nike Outdoor Nationals at Hayward Field, Eugene, OR, both as a high school freshman and again this year as a sophomore. I also attended the 2023 Nike Indoor Nationals at the Armory Track in New York, NY, the 2023 Nike Jesuit Twilight Relays, Portland, OR, and the Oregon Relays, Hayward Field, Eugene, OR. Running at these amazing venues was such a fantastic experience. I also love running the 4x100 and 4x400 relays as well as the DMR and the SMR. My relay teammates are very special to me and I really enjoy the team spirit and comradery that comes with running relays. We have a great bond, and you can feel the passion and excitement each time the baton is passed. My track team is very important to me, it has become like a second family and I feel truly grateful to be part of such a great team. My older brother was also on the high school track team which made my freshman and sophomore years even more special. I even ran cross-country as a freshman so that my brother and I could run together. I have also participated in several heptathlon events. Although these two-day events can be very grueling, I find them extremely rewarding and enjoyable. I'm hoping to compete in several more heptathlons in the near future.
Track for me is a passion. I enjoy training every day and love to push myself trying to reach the next level. For me, one of the best feelings is when I walk away from practice knowing that I've left everything I have on the track. As well as my track workouts, I also spend a lot of time in the weight room working on strength exercises. The advice and guidance I receive from my coaches is very important to me, which is why I consider myself to be very coachable. I have also assisted with several track camps and have helped coach young children in many different disciplines. It's great to see the smile on their faces when they finish a race or manage the hurdles or high jump!
My studies are also important to me and I study hard for my classes. Just like track, I feel compelled to reach for the best grades I can. I have taken Advanced Placement (AP) classes during the summer to experience a more rigorous class schedule and help prepare me for college. I was inducted into the National Honors Society in eighth grade and am also a member of the Student-Athlete Volunteer Club in high school which helps local charities raise money. I have also received the President's Award on three consecutive occasions which is given by my ski team, Mount Bachelor Sports Education Foundation (MBSEF), for traveling athletes who maintain a high GPA. I have also received the OSAA Academic All-State Award given to athletes in the top ten percent of the state's highest accumulative team GPA for Varsity Track.
I want to attend a college that will allow me to excel in the classroom and on the track. I'm passionate about running track in college and am open to schools that will give me this opportunity at a high level of competition. I really enjoy being part of the track camps I assist with and would like to continue to pursue similar activities in college to give something back to the community.
