My name is Ayva Fetterolf and I am entering my senior year (Class of 2024) at Penns Valley High School in Spring Mills, Pennsylvania. I joined the cross country team my sophomore year after participating in gymnastics since the age of four. I spent my last 3 years of gymnastics as a competitive gymnast. Gymnastics taught me about the hardwork, discipline, and determination that I would need to achieve my goals.
After achieving all my goals as a gymnast, I decided to participate in my school’s cross country team. I really loved the supportive environment that came with the team. Also, I enjoyed the feeling of improving my times and being able to contribute to my team goals. I ended my sophomore year on a rough note due to developing anemia from running and my lack of knowledge. This made me more determined to improve my times and learn to manage my anemia and nutrition. I ran many miles over the winter and managed my diet. I participated in track in the spring of my sophomore year and made it to districts while continuing to improve my times.
Over the summer, I continued to run and put in the miles. As a result, I was able to drop my times significantly over my junior year And made it to the State meet. I have developed a love for running and competing over these past two years, thus I want to continue to compete in college for both the community and the competition.
Academically, I have enjoyed my drafting and biology classes in high school. Although I am undecided at this time, I hope to pursue a career in one of these areas.
