Personal Statement

I love my team. My team is what keeps me motivated to go to practice at 7am every summer morning to run, my team is what motivates me to push myself as anchor in the 4x4, my team is what motivates me to be the best that I can be. I honestly don't know where I would be as a runner without my teammates and coaches. A member of the Walsingham cross country team was the person who told me to run the summer before seventh grade year. I had always played lacrosse all through the years and never thought about running on a team at all until my best friend told me to join the team, and being a person that wants to please everyone, I gave in and joined the team.

Being a memeber of the Walsingham Academy cross country team made me, for the first time, pasionate about something. I've always liked things but had never felt the motivation and drive that running gave me. I wasn't the fastest on my team (usually the fifth runner at least) but I was determined to get there. The cross country and track coaches are by far the best role models anyone could have. They are all so accomplished and driven to make their runners the best that we can be and I can't describe how much they mean to me. I make sure I'm doing well in my classes to make them proud and then in those tough races I imagine my coach, Mike Sheedy's, face when I've done well and that puts me in the mindset to get things done.

In the spring of 2013 I did not compete with my school's track team but instead continued on with lacrosse. I missed my team so much. I would be passing on the field just waiting to be able to get off practice and run to Colonial Williamsburg quickly before my mom came to get me. That same lacrosse season I was involved in an awful accident during a game that prevents me from wearing lacrosse goggles again. That was the only other sign I needed to stop playing the only sport I knew and to join the track team the following season.  Ever since I made that decision in seventh grade I've been a faithful member of the Walsingham Academy Cross Country team.

I've been on the team during our team's best moments in Walsingham history.

2015 was a great year for the women's team with an undefeated season including the first State Championship title in Walsingham Academy history as well as a runners-up title in our Conference meet. That season I peaked and earned my spot as the permanent anchor on the 4x4 team as well as the fastest ninth grader in Virgina in the 400 meter dash and overall third in all the female 400 runners in Virginia.

The cross country season before that historic track season was also a success with our women's team winning runners-up in the State Championship Meet in 2014.

My running career for Walsingham Academy has been full of amazing memories that will last a lifetime and I just can't imagine not being on a track team after I graduate.  I dont like to disappoint people so if you so kindly would want me on your team, I might not be the fastest at the time but I will do everything in my power to become the best that I can be no matter what that takes.
