Hi, my name is Kaylen Wilson. I have loved playing volleyball since I was first introduced to it at nine years old. After my 7th grade year, playing on my middle school team, I decided to get serious and began playing on travel club teams. I’ve played on multiple power teams, mostly with United Volleyball Club in my area. As an 8th grader, I began to develop my position as a middle hitter. I was awarded All City and we had the second-best team record in the city. In 9th grade, I transitioned to Virgil Grissom High School, a 7A school in north Alabama. After my 9th grade season, I was awarded MVP and had the highest number of points for my team. As a sophomore, I played as a middle for JV most of the season, but was the only player moved up to Varsity to learn a new position and play rightside for our Area-State tournaments. This was the first year Grissom made it to State in many years and it was a great experience for me. I was given the Tiger award for my positive contributions on both teams. This past year on varsity, as a junior, I played both as an outside and a middle. At the end of the season I was named the Best Offensive Player of the team. I was also one of three players from my team to make the All-Area team. I had a great experience this year during my senior season. After losing a lot of talented players, our team was very young but we were able to grow together. I was one of two awarded all city recognition and was able to transition from middle hitter to all around outsider as our team needed me. I had the highest number of kills and highest hitting percentage by far on my team. I’m thankful for a wonderful personable coach and great teammates who have helped me become a better player. I am a hard worker and am determined to improve my skills and athleticism. I love to study the game of volleyball and am committed to growing as a player and teammate. I am a lover of statistics and spend a lot of my time going over game play numbers and analyzing film in order to elevate my playing.
I’m not only competitive on the court but in the classroom as well. I currently carry a 4.2 GPA and scored a 34 on the ACT. I’ve also continued to take AP and Honors classes to help prepare me to handle the workload of being a college athlete. When I’m not in the gym or studying, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. My father is an ordained minister, and my mother is a school teacher and coach, so I’ve had great examples of servant leaders to learn from. I’ve been very blessed, and I strive to be a blessing to others. I’ve been a teacher for our children’s ministry for several years and I’m involved in our youth group at church. This year is a Student Discovery year, which means I’ll get a chance to lead Middle School students while speaking in both small and large groups. Whether I’m serving at church, FCA at school, or in my community, I want to represent my family well and be the person my faith calls me to be. I want to be part of a program where I’ll develop as a volleyball player and excel in the classroom, but I also want to grow as a leader. If these aspirations align with the goals of your program, then I hope you will consider giving me a chance to demonstrate how I could be an asset along the way.
