Hello my name is Jayden Sessom. I have been playing volleyball for about 4 years now. My very first year in club I was playing on a 15 - 4 team where I quickly learned the skills and basics of the game. Quickly moving into my second year of club I was offered to have a spot on a 16 - 2 team where I was the starting Libero and DS. Although the skill level was an adjustment I had worked on and off the court by working out everyday and maintaining my A, B average in school. I soon became the starting libero for my 16 - 2 team. Now the team that I play for is a 17 - 2 team. On this team I am advancing my skill sets more and more as well as excelling in school with an A average. As a junior I made varsity and although I didn't play a lot my coaches know me well for my hard work and infectious energy.
When I was younger I was known as a "military brat" as my father joined the Army when I was 4. I had moved around my whole life being exposed to a wide variety of culture and surrounded by many people with different passions. While moving to places such as Utah, Germany, Hawaii, Washington state and now my current home state California. I have seen many different cultures and I have grown to appreciate more of what is outside of my own culture and beliefs. While I was living in Hawaii my parents had gotten a divorce, and my little sister, my older brother and I had all moved with my mom to my grandmother's house in Southern Utah. My life in Utah was brief being only 6 months, it was hard and I started to feel hopeless, like I was going backwards in my life. When I was in Southern Utah I never really had much passion for anything. I lacked the want and the drive to be good at something. When we moved to California I met my best friend who had introduced me to my passion, Volleyball. It all started with me wanting to see her play in her club volleyball practices, so I would get up at the crack of dawn to see her play for hours. After a few months of me watching my friend playing in her club I knew that this is what I wanted to do. I went to private lessons with her and she encouraged me to tryout for my club I play at currently ; ACT. Because of my best friend and my mom's support I truly wouldn't be anywhere In my volleyball career without them.
My first few years of playing club volleyball I realized not only do I have a passion for the game but I have the passion to encourage those around me. My coaches could see this vital trait in me instantly and because of that I have been captain for every year of club I have played so far. While having a love so big for my sport, having leadership qualities is the biggest pull factor to continue playing at the college level. I am looking forward to creating everlasting bonds with those around me and doing my absolute best to do everything I can for my team and coaches.
