Playing volleyball has always been an exciting challenge for me. My competitive spirit stemmed from being in an athletic family where I learned to challenge myself and felt the innate motivation to succeed academically and athletically. From the formative years of my childhood, I witnessed first hand of how hard work and determination preceded talent through being an equestrian from the ages of eight to thirteen. While being an equestrian, I gained the core qualities and values that I relate to my volleyball playing today.
In my career as a volleyball player, I was required to use the tools that I have been given, such as grit and a fighting spirit, to work my way up from the lowest levels of my club to one of the highest ranked club teams in the nation. As a freshman, I doubted my ability to reach the levels in which I have achieved. Through growing mentally and physically, I have grown confidence in myself and my playing ability that wouldn't have occurred otherwise.
Furthermore, I believe being on a team forces one to hold themselves accountable for their actions on and off the court. The fundamentals of volleyball translate to any work environment. Qualities such as teamwork, trust, determination, punctuality, and communication are all driving forces championship teams. No matter my position on the team, I aspire to be a role model for others and hold myself to a high level of personal discipline.
