My first year playing club volleyball was the most fulfilling volleyball season I’ve ever played. I played volleyball at school for several years before, but club felt fresh, as I was trying something new. During that season, I ended up discovering my passion while developing my volleyball skills and playing alongside a group of hard-working teammates who would push me to be a better player and person. But my first club season was also the most challenging. On the day of our third tournament, our team was informed that our only setter had decided to bow out and end her own volleyball career. My coach told me that I would be the team setter for the rest of the season as I “had good hands at practice.” With 30 minutes to our first game, I had to learn the setter rotations and get the hang of a position that I had never played before, but as the day went on, I fell more in love with volleyball in my new position. I knew that this was the position that was right for me, but I also realized that I had the open-mindedness and dedication to be on the court wherever my team needed me. This was also the day that I decided that I wanted to play at the college level.
Through this experience and throughout my volleyball career, I have learned the importance of teamwork, selflessness, perseverance, sacrifice, and leadership. As a two-time captain in my three year volleyball career, I know how to rise to the occasion and give it my all for myself and my teammates no matter the obstacle whether it’s injury, frustration, or fatigue. I am looking for an institution that can support my academic and athletic endeavors. I am an all-around player who can adapt to playing situations and positions, and I believe that I have the work-ethic, character, and skills, to make a positive mark on your team!
