Personal Statement
Hello, my name is Tess Holbert. I have been around volleyball my whole life, especially having the opportunity to grow up watching my sister play. My goal is being able to carry my passion for volleyball into college. I started playing in USYVL at the age of 7. Since then my love for volleyball has continued to expand. With playing over 7 years of club volleyball, I am a highly experienced player. I have been a setter most of my years but have played outside, opposite, middle, and over time have become a very skillful passer in the mix of it all.
My first year on varsity was challenging as we fell short in league and got second, unable to put another number on our banner. This was hard on my teammates and I but all we could do was learn from it. For me, I learned that if I want successes in my volleyball career, then I must take leadership and help those around me. As a team, we knew that we had to stop saying we wanted it, and actually getting it. I had taken this into my club season and every practice I became a better leader and an even better teammate.
During my sophomore high school season, I was Athlete of the Week, named MVP of my team for beach and indoor, and I was voted onto the PVL 1st Team All-League. I have not only succeeded in volleyball but as well as in my academics. Keeping good grades is always hard when being an athlete but no one ever said it would be easy. I am always having to get through difficult obstacles, as an athlete and student, yet at the end of the day my dedication to school and sports is what keeps me on the right path. I have always given school 100%, just like I do every time I step foot on the court.
Thank you so much for taking the time to visit my profile and for having me be a possible prospective student-athlete.
