Height Problems
When I was younger I didn’t like my height I was uncomfortable because I’ve been taller than all my classmates for as long as I can remember. I told my parents how I felt about my height and they told me that being tall was a blessing because it made me stand out. Because I was tall I was constantly reminded of my height because I would always have to look down at my friends and I did not like it. Then when I got older I started to feel more confident. In the sixth grade things started to change, I met a few girls who were taller and I was no longer looking down at people. The older I was getting the more girls I met that I could relate to and I was getting more comfortable with my height. I decided to try out for volleyball because I want to use my height for something other than reaching on high shelves for my sister. I talked to my parents about it and my mom signed me up to play volleyball in the park. It was so much fun that I wanted to keep playing. She then signed me up for a club team and I was nervous because I didn’t think I was going to be as good as the other girls that were trying out. Once my first day of try outs ended one of the coaches wanted me to play for their team, hearing that news made me realize that I had what it takes to play at the club level. When I first started club the coach told me I was a middle blocker which was a position I was not use to playing, it was tough at first, jumping all over the net and trying to block the hits but the more I started playing this position the more I was used to it and the better I got. After my first year of club it was fun and a lot of hard work but I still wanted to keep doing it, I’m now on my fifth year of club and I’m enjoying every minute of it. My freshman year of high school I was on the Frosh/soph team. I learned at lot that year and it definitely got me ready to play upper division level when the time came. My Sophomore year I made varsity and I was happy because I realized that all my hard work was paying off and I continue to work hard whether it’s in practice or just in everyday life.
