Personal Statement
Hi, my name is TaKenya Stafford and I will play college volleyball. The question is, at which College? The Olympics will hopefully follow my collegiate career. My current club is located at the hot bed of women’s volleyball, Manhattan Beach, California. I play indoor club (Beach Cities) and both indoor and beach volleyball for my high school (Bishop Montgomery). At Bishop Montgomery, pre-season, I tried out and made the Frosh/Soph. team, since the Varsity team was packed with seniors. I continued to work hard during practice and played hard during the pre-season games. The Varsity coach recognized my talents and work ethic and promoted me to the Varsity team, where I continued my hard work and I really appreciated how that hard work paid off for me overall. It was a very humbling experience. In between seasons, my younger sister and I partner up and can be found at the Manhattan Beach sand courts winning summer tournaments.
I came to the game of volleyball by watching my God-sister play when I was seven, and I have played every since. I have played other sports, but volleyball is definitely my passion. All my coaches say that I am extremely coachable, as well. I am currently a 4.0 student in high school, and will maintain my academic standards throughout my college career. I plan on attending post graduate school, after the Olympics. Team goals are definitely more important than any individual aspirations, and I lead by example, as the captain of my club team, at Beach Cities. I always motivate and encourage my teammates. I always give volleyball my all and leave everything on the court for my team and teammates.
Sincerely,
TaKenya L. Stafford
