Personal Statement
My name is Sydney Jackwin, and I am a 6 rotation OH for the class of 2022. I have an unexplainable passion for the game of volleyball, which has allowed me to view every practice and competition as an "opportunity" vs an obligation. My grit and mental toughness help me maintain a focused mindset, determined to help my team not only in games, but at every practice too. I will enhance your program by bringing added communication, heart, hustle, encouragement, and always having a selfless attitude! I'm looking for a program where I will be challenged not solely in athletics, but equally in my academics too. I believe that my work ethic, determination, athleticism, willingness to be held accountable, and desire to get better every day/make my teammates better "on and off" the court...will allow me to make an immediate impact to my team and to the program!
I recently changed clubs and will be competing on OTVA's 18 Chad team (previously OT 17 Jason) for my final club season! Prior to that I was at St Pete Club, where I was a starting 6 rotation OH and Captain the past six club seasons.
I'm blessed to have recorded my 1000th Kill in Oct 2020, and just 66 Digs away from recording my 1000th Dig! My goal for my Senior season is to lead my team to a 2021 State title! To date, I have broken 8 school records: "Single Season" - Kills (449), Digs (310), Aces (95)...as well as..."Single Match" - Kills (34), Digs (30)...and my varsity "Career to Date" is - Kills (1254), Digs (934), Aces (260). I've also continuously led my team in Kills, Digs, and Aces!
Off the "indoor" court, I also play competitive Beach Volleyball - finished 17th out of 141 teams in the 18's division, at the AVP East Coast Championships, Nov 2020. I returned back to the sand following my club season this summer & earned 2 USAV Bids and 2 AVP Bids (with 2 different 1st time partners) in June 2021 and July 2021. Additionally, I play Varsity Basketball for my school, and to date I've broken 2 school records: "Steals in a Game" - (21) and "Steals in a Season" - (180). In Dec 2020, I recorded my 1000th Point! Outside of sports I have been involved in Fine Arts, playing the Alto Saxophone for 7 years. Prior to covid I volunteered weekly at my home church in the nursery, working in the 3's & 4's class. I love working with younger kids and being a role model for them.
My goal for HS is to exceed my current 4.3 weighted GPA and maintain my 4.0 unweighted GPA. For College, Math and Science are the subjects that excite me, (so currently thinking...Biotechnology/Biomedical Engineering, and/or possibly something in the medical field). My long term goal is not just to compete at the collegiate level competitively while pursuing a degree; it's to ultimately, compete in the Olympics!
