Michelle Kelley '24 Recruiting Profile

My name is Michelle Kelley, and I am an setter and opposite from Tampa, Florida. I have only been playing volleyball for the span of my high school career, because before, I was a competitive gymnast. Switching from an individual sport to the most team-oriented sport, in my opinion, was eye-opening. I was able to learn how to communicate efficiently with my teammates and work for the greater good of the team. I applied my coachability onto the volleyball court and quickly learned how to work it to our advantage. While in gymnastics, I was extremely competitive, placing first at most events and growing my competitive spirit. That competitiveness transferred over to volleyball. In volleyball, I encourage my teammates to play to their best ability and do what they know how to do. I am persistent and hardworking, never giving up. I will leave everything on the court, and I will make sure we have a plan while we do it. Along with working hard, I am coordinated and clever - I look ahead at what the team is doing across from us and how we can use that to our advantage. I played up on the 17's team at my friend's club my sophomore year of high school from February to July when they needed a player. Here, I switched to right side and later, setter. As a lefty, I have been able to use the right side to my advantage. Playing with different age groups and in different positions has given me amazing experience and challenges I was ecstatic to overcome. I am excited to further this development and competitiveness on a whole new level in college, on a school team and in club!
