My name is Jessica Yamamoto. I am a 2021 graduate of the Hawaii Baptist Academy (HBA) High School in Honolulu, Hawaii. I am a setter for the HBA varsity team and a setter/libero for the Hana Hou 18’s volleyball club team.
In 2019, I was also selected for the Aloha Region High Performance regional youth team as a setter. We took 2nd in Fort Lauderdale in July 2019.
Ever since I was 3 years old, I knew that I wanted to become a volleyball player. I officially started to work towards my dream at the age of 9 when I was in the 5th grade. I gave up gymnastics and soccer as a goalie to start playing volleyball for my school’s team and a club volleyball team.
My passion for this sport now isn’t any less from when I first started to play and my passion for this sport continues to grow stronger as I play more and more years of volleyball. In my practices and games for volleyball, I continue to work hard to keep improving my skills. I know that I will keep trying to do that if I get recruited for a college team. The effort I give partially comes from me being a competitive player. This comes from playing many years of sports such as gymnastics, soccer, basketball and beach volleyball. I believe that this competitive side in me pushes me to keep wanting to get better and learn new things from my coaches and teammates.
I would also like to be a Physical Therapist one day, because I like the feeling of helping people and seeing smiles on their faces when I can do something that can make their life better.
I hope I can one day be recruited for college volleyball to fulfill my dream and passion to play this amazing sport. I feel that there is no greater feeling then when you can finally make your dream come true, especially one that you’ve worked towards for years.
