I love this sport.
It started in 7th grade, but I did not make our middle school volleyball team. I was so disappointed because I worked all summer on my skills. I turned this into an opportunity to learn and grow. I went to the school the day after I found out that I did not make the team and asked Coach Danielle Wilson if I could be the team manager, travel with the team, clean balls, take down nets and do anything the team needed to support them. In exchange, I asked Coach Wilson if I could practice with the team so that I could learn and grow and make the team the next year. She agreed! I have been playing ever since and love it.
After my dad's suicide I was determined to turn my grief into support for others suffering. So I went on to ask my mom to donate some of the proceeds of her company to suicide prevention foundations, I dedicated my personal project to mental health awareness and I knew that volleyball was part of my healing so I kept showing up. A year later my step-sister attempted suicide and my mom and I found her. I was with her through the emergency room, hospital stays, and after her life flight to Boise St. Luke's Medical Center.
I am committed to volleyball, my love of the sport, and my continued desire to play division II in College.
I feel my leadership on and off the court as well as my commitment to academics while pursuing other passions regarding mental health awareness, human rights, and the environment are demonstrated in my involvement with The water Club, NAMI, and Amnesty International as well as my transcripts and receiving the coaches merit award from The University of Tampa/s head coach Chirs Catanch this summer while playing at the camps they hosted.
I pride myself on my commitment to my team, hard work, and my coachability. I love to learn and love this sport!
Thank you,
Lainee Ludington
