I am a short girl with big aspirations.
My name is Jacklyn Markovitz and I have been playing volleyball since third grade. My first and second season playing volleyball, as a third and fourth grader, I played at a JV level for my school. My team had two unbelievable undefeated seasons and we went further than any team had in our school's history. As a fifth grader our team had another winning season and I began to think about what my future in volleyball was going to be. I began to research what I wanted as a player in a collegiate program. I am driven and motivated every time I step onto the court to prove that shorter is not a disadvantage. Although I am only 5' 5'' I use my speed and knowledge of the sport as an advantage and I also come with a vertical that is well over 2 feet- so I can compete at the net with taller girls. I am driven to perform my best in everything I do, school and volleyball, and I am never satisfied after a great game. I am here to improve, because you can always improve, and I am always willing and ready to learn new things from my coaches and continue to improve where I need to. I am disciplined as an athlete and as a student in my studies and my workout regime. My coaches have said that I am one of the most competitive people they have met and I step onto the court with one goal, to win. I am confident in my teammates and I love playing a sport as a unit. Communication and energy are things that take no effort and are things that every great team must have. I am committed to this sport and my team and I am adaptable to whatever a coach throws at me. I have played every position in the book over the past 8 years, and it has shaped me into a versatile player. I fell in love with setting in 6th grade because I like being a leader, and in 16 years I have never felt a better feeling than the one I get when my teammates get a perfect kill off a good sett. I play every game as if it is my last, and I always will play that way. I played volleyball at Sky High and continue to play at Club Fusion while maintaining a spot on an equestrian trick riding team and continually doubling up practices for vaulting. I am an extremely fast runner and I will do whatever it takes to get a ball up. Academically I have maintained a +4.0 GPA every year and I work just as hard in the classroom as I do on the court. I aspire to be a large animal veterinarian or a marine biologist and I know that college sports are a huge undertaking with such a competitive field of study, but I have proven myself to be great at time management and I don't accept less than the best from myself. I want to be a part of a team that is a family because you cannot win games if you are not a unit, and I am striving for a school with an elite environment. Volleyball is my outlet and the court is my home, and I am ready to be a part of something big.
