Reflecting on yourself is never an easy task, especially since I am only a sophomore and there is so much I want to accomplish. I am Zoey Seput, and I am 16, a setter at Minooka Community High School and at Uno Volleyball Club in Joliet, Illinois. The name Zoey means life, and I plan on living life to the fullest. I am totally Type A, I like routine, organization, punctuality, drive, dedication. Sometimes I am impatient when others don’t live up to their full potential, but as a setter and team captain, I feel part of my role on the team is to encourage people to be their best and try their hardest. Being part of a team means everything to me because it always takes a team effort to reach goals, succeed, to grow athletically and individually.
Since I’ve been little, I’ve always wanted to be a teacher. Both my parents are in education and I see what a difference they make in children’s/students’ lives. I also think that is why I am a setter, I feel the setter is the one position that you can impact all the other players. Part of being a setter is to be encouraging and tough when needed, and a Type A personality is good at both. My first goal as a soon to be college student is to find a college or university that is a good fit for me personally, academically, and athletically. I hope one day to teach and coach volleyball.
As a setter I have conditioned and trained to achieve certain levels that I have set for myself. So far, I am humble and proud of the following achievements since being in high school. As a sophomore I ran a 5-1 with 5 division 1 athletes, making the varsity team as the starting setter. Throughout the season I was named 2nd Team All-State, All-Area Voyager Media, 2nd team Morris Herald, 2nd team Joliet Herald, and AVCA Max Preps Player of the Week. To end our season we were runner up for the Illinois High School Association Class 4A (the largest class in the state of Illinois) State Championship. I will continue to live up to these achievements, first for my team and for myself. I truly believe I will be an outstanding candidate for any college volleyball program because I am committed to reaching my goals and following my dreams.
