Personal Statement
My name is Emily Abernathy and my love for volleyball started at an early age. I started playing school volleyball in the fourth grade and club volleyball in the sixth grade. For club I have played up one or more age levels for 4 of my 5 seasons. As a current sophomore I have played two school seasons, both with a varsity spot. My freshman year I ran a 6-2 with a senior setter, however in a few of the games my coach decided to play a 5-1 with only me setting. My sophomore year I ran a 5-1 with only me setting along with being a captain with one of my fellow teammates who was a senior. At the end of that season I earned the award of most assists, most aces, and I got PAC All-Conference Setter. I have always had great teammates and coaches who have helped me thrive with not only my setting, serving, passing, and hitting skills but also my teamwork and leadership skills. I have always been told by coaches that I am very coach-able. I also play softball for my high school. So between club ball, and high school ball I continuously stay active. Along with the athlete part of myself, the academic side of myself is very hard working and important. I work hard to keep my 4.0 GPA and am looking forward to working in the medical field one day. I am looking for a college with a great academic program along with a great volleyball program. I am an athlete with a strong love for volleyball who hopes to continue my career into my college years.
