My name is Carlee VanHouten and I’m a junior at Franklin County High School in Frankfort, Kentucky. I've always loved playing sports growing up. No matter what it may be: golf, tennis, softball, and of course volleyball. Sports are not just for the feeling of winning, but having the challenge that comes with it. Getting to play to the best of my abilities not just by myself, but with teammates along with me. On the court, my priority is lifting up my teammates whether we are winning by 20 or losing by the same amount. I truly believe that only through positivity and effort you can succeed. I also work hard off the court by trying to the best of my abilities to succeed for not only myself but for my coaches, teammates, and most importantly my parents. Freshman year I spent at home due to Covid, and through that I learned that being lazy gets you nowhere. I have faced challenges in the classroom but I have overcome them. In my almost 3 years of being in high school I have an unweighted GPA of 3.3 and have received a 20 on my ACT score. I hate to disappoint; all of the coaches have said I'm a “ competitive person with a burst of energy as soon as she steps on the court.” I want to win, and though winning in my eyes isn't just the medal that you receive at the end. Winning is in the heart, and if you played as hard as you could and you had fun while doing it that counts as a win. So just being here and playing volleyball in college will be the biggest win in my book, and I will do what it takes to make myself the best player on and off the court.
