Growing up, I developed a passion for sports and started playing lacrosse at the age of six. At that time, I believed lacrosse would become my career. However, gradually, I started developing an interest in volleyball. Sports have taught me the importance of teamwork, friendship, and sisterhood. In volleyball, a strong team dynamic is key to success. I started playing volleyball in 7th grade and despite some roadblocks, such as not making the A team, I was determined to become the best player that I could be. I practiced as much as I could by attending volleyball camps (most notably an extended weekend at Princeton University), clinics, and one-on-one private lessons (2 to 3 times a week). Over time, my hard work paid off, and I improved significantly. I made it to the top travel team for my age group in the first year of playing club volleyball. Since then, I have played on the top national team for my age group. I also practice with our club's 18 national team and help my coach with private tutoring of others.
In the spring and summer, I enjoy playing beach volleyball, which helps me improve my hustle, and footwork, and further hones my volleyball skills.
As an incoming 9th grader, my biggest success so far has been making the varsity team as a second setter and earning significant playing time. I had the privilege of helping lead my team to county and district championships. Playing alongside seasoned and accomplished players transformed my approach to the game. I learned the importance of exuding positive energy on, as well as off, the court, and how it can significantly impact the outcome of a match. Whether I was on the sidelines or playing, I always made sure to maintain my highest level of enthusiasm and vocal support for my teammates.
Apart from my dedication on the court, I am committed to excelling academically. I am proud to be on the honor roll, and a Carson Scholar, and am determined to maintain a high GPA and QPA. During middle school, I was a member of the National Junior Society, and I am eager to continue striving for academic excellence in high school.
I would love to play volleyball in college, as it would provide me with the opportunity to continue enjoying my favorite sport amongst one of the best teams in the country. I cannot wait to be guided by my teammates and coached, and eventually pay it back by mentoring other incoming freshmen. Volleyball has already taught me so much about effective communication and how to bounce back from mistakes. While I haven't decided on my major yet, my ultimate goal is to attend a college that can challenge me both intellectually and practically, and prepare me for my future endeavors.
