Personal Statement

I have played volleyball since 4th grade and have loved it ever since.  It has been my aspiration to play volleyball in college ever since I watched games on TV when I was little.  I want to be the best volleyball player that I can be and I playing in college will help me to achieve that goal.  I have always tried to push myself to get better everyday.  I am a hard worker, I listen to what my coaches have to say because I know they are telling me things that will help me to improve.  I have a positive attitude, I am a team player and I get along very well with all of my teammates.  I have played multiple sports throughout middle school and high school (volleyball, basketball and softball) while participating in other extra curricular activities, such as service projects for my church's Youth Group, tutoring at my school and coaching at my school's summer camps, all while maintaining a 4.0.  This shows how determined I am to be the best I can be in both sports and academics, but I also recognize the need to have balance in my life by giving back to others through service to my school, church and community.  I plan to major in Biology in college with the goal of becoming a secondary education teacher, possibly coaching volleyball at the high school level.

NOTE:  You can see additional video clips of me from last year.  Just go to "YouTube" and search under my father's name (Lee Suurmeyer).  There will be 7 clips of me from last season.  I will be wearing black jersey #3 in all of the clips, except for the West Bloomfield clips (2).  There I will be wearing our white uniform, jersey #3.
